What’s On July 2026: Members’ News

Welcome to the July issue of Members’ News. Our members are hard at work creating new work for our exhibition at Knit and Stitch show but many are also exhibiting, hosting events and running workshops not just across the country but internationally.

Exhibitions & Events:

Linda Pearl Izan has been selected for ‘Order and Chaos', the 7th International Triennial of Textile Art – TexpoART 2026 at Aparte Art Gallery of the “George Enescu” National University of Arts in Iași until 30th June 2026. The exhibition is designed to provide artists with a space to showcase their work without the hierarchy or competition associated with prize-based exhibitions. For its 7th edition, the Textile Art International Triennial TexpoART invites artists to engage with the theme “ORDER AND CHAOS”, opening a space for artistic reflection and dialogue.

Niki Chandler, Marian Murphy and Irena Willmott are all showing as part of “On Balance” at Anglia Textile Works at Handa Gallery, Wells Maltings, Staithe Street, Wells-next-the-Sea, NR23 1AN until 5 July 2026. Open Daily 11am-4pm. Free Entry. Anglia Textile Works is a group of contemporary textile artists with strong links to East Anglia. “On Balance” is our annual summer selling exhibition of art, textiles, prints and artist cards. 

Nerissa Cargill Thompson presents her first solo exhibition, The Problem Lies Upstream in Gallery 2, The Harris, Preston, until Sunday 5 July 2026, Monday - Saturday 9am - 5pm (Thursday until 9pm), Sunday 11am - 4pm. A cautionary tale told through mixed media sculptures. Nerissa’s first solo show gathers all the sculptures from the Green Loop art trail into one place to highlight coastal plastic pollution.

Helen MacRitchie will be exhibiting as part of “Symbioses: Living Together” at ArtWorks East, Leyton E10 5SB until 23 July. Private view Friday 26 June 6-9pm. A group art exhibition exploring the patterns of nature, sustainability and our relationship with the more than human world.

Catherine Hill is showing work in “Right to Roam” exhibition in the Inspired by Gallery, Danby Lodge National Park Centre, Lodge Ln, Danby, Whitby YO21 2NB until 26 July 2026. The exhibition reflects on the history of the right to roam movement and its impact on the creation of England's National Parks and public rights of way.

Linda Pearl Izan is exhibiting in ‘Voyage 2026' hosted by the Finnish Association of New Textile Art UUTE at Kuusisto Art Manor, Kaarina Finland until 26th July 2026. VOYAGE 2026 is a concept that is simultaneously both abstract, related to life and time, and concrete. A journey can mean moving from one location to another, but also transformation, remembrance, cultural encounters, and personal experiences. The exhibition invites the viewer on an artistic journey to different countries, perspectives, and forms of expression in the field of textile art. Kuusisto Art Manor is an established venue for contemporary art, located in the city of Kaarina. The Voyage exhibition features 50 textile works from 22 countries. 

Kim Winter presents a student basketry exhibition at Morley Gallery, 61 Westminster Bridge Rd, London SE1 7HT from 1-4 July, 12-5pm daily. Prism member Kim teaches basketry at Morley College in London, and some of her students' work will be showcased alongside the Morley Textile Foundation end of year exhibition at Morley Gallery. Kim will also be running a taster workshop on Saturday 4 July, 12-4pm, where you can make a small twined basket using soft fibres like jute, sisal, and hemp.

Jane Riley will be exhibiting in “Picking up the Thread: the Past Present and Future of Tapestry” at Morley Gallery from 13th - 25th July 2026. A celebration of Tapestry to mark the 20th year of the British Tapestry Group, featuring 69 artists from nine different countries.

Nerissa Cargill Thompson has been selected for “The Manchester Open 2026” at HOME, 2 Tony Wilson Place Manchester M15 4FN until 6 Sep 2026 12 - 8pm. The Manchester Open is an exhibition of artworks from people across Greater Manchester of all experience levels from across all of Greater Manchester's 10 boroughs and includes works in the categories of ceramics; digital / moving image; drawing; print; painting; photography; sculpture / installation; and textiles. Just over 400 pieces were selected from thousands of entries. Nerissa has been selected as 1 of 10 artists shortlisted for the 3 Castlefield Gallery Awards which will be announced at the end of July. Nerissa’s piece, “12 Percent” was originally created for the Prism A.O.B. exhibition. Entry is free but please book a time slot (not always necessary but best at peak times like weekends)

Annie Taylor will be showing work in Textile Junction exhibition at Electro Studios Project Space, Electro Studios, Seaside Road, Leonard’s-on-Sea TN38 OAL. Open 12-5pm from Saturday 20th & Sunday 21st and Saturday 27th & Sunday 28th. Featuring the work of over 60 artists with a contemporary take on textile art.

Sally Spinks and Patti Taylor have been selected for the Green & Stone Summer Exhibition at Green & Stone Gallery, 251-253 Fulham Rd, London SW3 6HY from 27 July to 23 August 2026. The Green & Stone Summer Exhibition welcomed work across all mediums, including painting, drawing, sculpture, photography, print, textile, and mixed media. Out of 2,300+ entries, 165 works were shortlisted for the exhibition so congratulations to Sally & Patti. 

Linda Pearl Izan is exhibiting at this year’s Festival of Quilts held at N.E.C. Birmingham, B40 1NT. Open Thursday 30th July to Sunday 2nd August: 9:30am – 5.30pm (closing 4pm on the Sunday). The Festival of Quilts Competition celebrates and champions every aspect of patchwork, quilting and appliqué, providing quiltmakers of all abilities with the opportunity to showcase their work on a world-class stage.

Nerissa Cargill Thompson has been commissioned to created new work as part of Immaterial Collective for Your Salford 100: Contemporary Narratives at Salford Museum & Art Gallery, Peel Park, The Crescent, M5 4WU. It can be seen until Sunday September 27th 2026, Tuesday - Friday: 9.30am – 4.00pm Saturday & Sunday: 11.30am – 4.00pm. Immaterial Collective were excited to be invited to explore the archives to inspire new textile artworks as part of the centenary celebrations of the City of Salford. We will showing these alongside the items that inspired them. A collection of print artists were invited to do the same. Together we make up the Contemporary Narratives exhibition.

Workshops

Basketry Taster: Make a small twined basket in an afternoon. Saturday, 4 July 2026 12-4PM. In this taster workshop Morley basketry tutor Kim Winter will teach you how to make a small twined basket. You’ll be using soft materials like jute, hemp, and sisal, and can create patterns using different colours. Work in the Morley gallery amongst the group show of contemporary basketry works. This is hands on course for age 19+ that will allow an insight into basketry. Book tickets online £70.

Join Penny Maltby to make a midsummer crown at Modern Makers summer school in The coaching Barn, Little Stone Manor Farm, Wallingford, Oxfordshire OX10 6AX on 18th July 10am - 4.30pm. Inspired by summer rituals, celebration and folklore, design and make a midsummer crown using a range of straw working and textile techniques. Book tickets online £120.

Ross Belton: Discover the beauty of nature’s palette in this five-day natural dyeing textiles course at V&A Academy: Natural Dyeing: A Heritage of Colour Course at V&A South Kensington, Cromwell Road, London, SW7 2RL from Monday 27 July 2026 – Friday 31 July 2026. This fabric course uncovers the history of natural dyeing in the V&A’s collections, giving you behind-the-scenes gallery tours with V&A textile curators and exclusive object-handling sessions – bringing the history of natural dyeing to life through hands-on learning experiences. Booking Now Open. Please note the course runs in July and prior booking is essential.

Other News

Sharon Kearley is pleased to share that she has been awarded an Arts Council National Lottery Project Grant Research & Development Award to investigate undervalued and discarded wool waste collaborating with local farmers and Wiltshire College, Lackham campus and specialised technical tuition. The project focuses on material innovation, skill development and knowledge exchange, with potential economic, educational and environmental benefits.
