What’s On August 2026: Members’ News
Welcome to the August issue of Members’ News. Our members are finishing off new work selected for our exhibition at Knit and Stitch show but many are also exhibiting, hosting events and running workshops across the country.
Exhibitions & Events:
Nerissa Cargill Thompson in The Manchester Open 2026 at HOME, 2 Tony Wilson Place Manchester M15 4FN until 6 Sep 2026 12 - 8pm. The Manchester Open is an exhibition of selected artworks from people across Greater Manchester of all experience levels from across all of Greater Manchester's 10 boroughs and includes works in the categories of ceramics; digital / moving image; drawing; print; painting; photography; sculpture / installation; and textiles. Just over 400 pieces were selected from thousands of entries. Nerissa was 1 of 10 artists shortlisted for the 3 Castlefield Gallery Awards. Nerissa’s piece, “12 Percent” was originally created for the Prism A.O.B. exhibition. Entry is free but please book a time slot (not always necessary but best at peak times like weekends)
Sally Spinks and Patti Taylor have been selected for the Green & Stone Summer Exhibition at Green & Stone Gallery, 251-253 Fulham Rd, London SW3 6HY from 27 July to 23 August 2026. The Green & Stone Summer Exhibition welcomed work across all mediums, including painting, drawing, sculpture, photography, print, textile, and mixed media. Out of 2,300+ entries, 165 works were shortlisted for the exhibition so congratulations to Sally & Patti.
Nerissa Cargill Thompson work “Growth I & II” have been selected for Open 26 at Tarpey Gallery, 77 High Street, Castle Donington, DE742PQ until 9th August 2026. Open: Thursday – Sunday, 10am – 5pm. A showcase of the best of UK contemporary art bringing together emerging and established artists to create a diverse and exciting group exhibition in one of the Midlands foremost Commercial Contemporary Fine Art Galleries.
Linda Pearl Izan is exhibiting at this year’s Festival of Quilts held at N.E.C. Birmingham, B40 1NT. Open Thursday 30th July to Sunday 2nd August: 9:30am – 5.30pm (closing 4pm on the Sunday). The Festival of Quilts Competition celebrates and champions every aspect of patchwork, quilting and appliqué, providing quiltmakers of all abilities with the opportunity to showcase their work on a world-class stage.
Annie Taylor, Julieanne Long and Maria Walker will be exhibiting in “In her Hands” at The House of Smalls, 103 Henderson Row, Edinburgh EH3 5BP from 1- 30 August (see gallery website for opening times). This is The House of Smalls 30th exhibition and showcases textile artwork and art dolls by 60 women artists depicting and in recognition of women through history who toiled and entertained: filled voids, fought the fights, oiled the cogs and kept/keep the world turning. Julieanne’s work looks at women’s contributions to engineering especially during the war.
Maria Walker will be showing work as part of “Transformations”, The Horton Summer exhibition 2026, at The Horton Epsom from1st to 25th August.
Annie Taylor is taking part in Neon Blue Tales at The Pie Factory Margate Gallery, 5 Broad Street, Margate,
CT9 1EW fromThursday 13th to Monday 17th August, 11am to 5pm. There will be a PV to celebrate the launch on Thursday 13th 6-8pm and a storytelling and poetry afternoon on Sunday 16th August from 4-6pm. 5 artists of different styles of work and creative energy return to the Pie Factory to transform the space into a place of wonder. Annie will be bringing along her Big Dolls/soft sculptures to return to this favourite venue.
Helen MacRitchie will exhibit her felted and embroidered textiles alongside ceramics by Debbie Page in “Life Traces” exhibition at The Old Fire Station Gallery, Market Place, Henley RG9 2AG from 14 - 25 August. Through the mediums of textiles and ceramics we present how nature inspires our lives and leaves its mark on our artistic practices. Memories and changing landscapes impact on present narratives, while nature itself marks our creations through dye and print. Free to attend plus running bookable free workshops (see below). Open each day 11-5pm weekdays, 10-5pm weekends. Private view opening Friday 14 Aug 5.30 - 7.30pm with fizz and nibbles! All welcome, love you see you.
Anne Amosford will be exhibiting in The Crow Show 26 at Positive Light, Sidwell Street, Exeter EX4 6RD from 15th August - 29th August, 10am - 4pm every day. This is an annual show by Crows (Creative older women) featuring painting, printmaking, ceramics, and textiles.
Annie Taylor will be exhibiting in Lost Dolls Found at The Horsebridge Arts Centre, 11 Horsebridge Road, Whitstable, CT5 1AF from 26 August to 7 September, 9am to 5pm Monday to Saturday, closed Tuesdays. Exploring our varied and sometimes complex relationships with dolls - not simply a 'childhood toy', something we grow out of - but often provoking wildly differing and strongly held emotional reactions. Some of us are fascinated, and some find dolls creepy, and some of us are fascinated by their creepiness.
Nerissa Cargill Thompson has been commissioned to created new work as part of Immaterial Collective for Your Salford 100: Contemporary Narratives at Salford Museum & Art Gallery, Peel Park, The Crescent, M5 4WU. It can be seen until Sunday September 27th 2026, Tuesday - Friday: 9.30am – 4.00pm Saturday & Sunday: 11.30am – 4.00pm. Immaterial Collective were excited to be invited to explore the archives to inspire new textile artworks as part of the centenary celebrations of the City of Salford. We will showing these alongside the items that inspired them. A collection of print artists were invited to do the same. Together we make up the Contemporary Narratives exhibition.
Workshops
Helen MacRitchie will be running Fun Free Knotting (as part of Life Traces exhibition see above) on Sun 16th and Thurs 20th August 2-3pm in The Old Fire Station Gallery, 52 Market Place, Henley-on-Thames RG9 2AG. Come and learn the basics of free knotting with wool yarn that Helen uses in her work. Try out the knots yourself and go home with your handmade key fob, All necessary materials and instructions supplied. FREE to attend but booking essential.
