Margaret Jones

Haslemere, Surrey, UK

Margaret Jones is a skilled tapestry weaver, using traditional materials to create stunning weft faced tapestries. Margaret has an enduring love for the ordered medieval style surface of tapestries, keeping texture to a minimum and dyeing her own yarns to achieve a bespoke colour palette for each piece of work.

Influences are many, from her environment in West Sussex to overheard comments in the street, but through this, she weaves a rich narrative interest in myth and folklore.

Art influences are many but probably the most predominant are the female surrealists, particularly Remedios Varo and Leonora Carrington. Surreal images blend beautifully with the mythical and legendary themes of Margaret’s work
