What’s On October 2026: Members’ News
Welcome to the October issue of Members’ News. The new work selected for our Knit + Stitch exhibition is now complete, and we are looking forward to seeing it all come together this month at Alexandra Palace, London, followed by Harrogate Convention Centre in November.
Many members are also busy exhibiting individually and in smaller groups, giving talks, leading workshops and sharing their knowledge and skills in a variety of settings.

PRISM is showing its exhibition Out of the Box at the Knit + Stitch Show at Alexandra Palace in London from 8-11 October 2026, moving up to Harrogate from 19-22nd November. What happens when artists are asked to think inside the box? This exhibition brings together textile artists responding to a shared challenge: to create work that fits within a box while allowing their ideas to reach far beyond it. Through stitch, weave, print, dyeing and mixed media, they explore memory, personal experience, place, landscape and the stories held within objects and materials.
Helen MacRitchie will be exhibiting in Stone, Stitch & Soil by Artists in Research and Textiles (A.R.T) at Ham Hill Country Park Visitors Centre, Stoke sub-Hamden, Somerset TA14 6RW until 25 Oct, open daily 9 - 5pm. "Stitch, Stone & Soil" presents new work exploring place, material, and process through contemporary textile practice. The exhibition features work inspired by Ham Hill, the largest hill fort in the UK, responding to its landscape, history, geology, nature, and wildlife.
Helen McRitchie, Jane Riley, Wolfgang Woerner and new member Mew are exhibiting as part of the Holborn Group and Guests’ upcoming exhibition, Conversations, from 2-4 October, daily from 11:00-18:00. Meet the Artists on Saturday, 3rd October, 14:00-17:00. Seven members of the Holborn Group are joined by five guest artists, bringing together diverse work spanning drawing, painting, textiles, ceramics, sculpture and digital media. The exhibition explores conversations between different styles, materials, ideas and approaches, revealing unexpected connections and fresh perspectives across twelve distinct artistic practices. Paulene Cattle is taking part in the Wandsworth Artists’ Open House at Venue 18 – Southfields Trail, London SW19, on 3–4 and 10–11 October, from 11am–6pm. Come and see Paulene’s experimental textiles and prints alongside Roger’s evocative drawings from life, then continue exploring the homes and studios of artists across the borough. Nerissa Cargill Thompson is currently exhibiting in What is Precious? at The Waterside Arts Centre, Sale, Manchester M33 7ZF until Sat 03 Oct, Mon-Sat 10am -5pm. It features a curated selection of Design-Nation members, whose practices explore the idea of perceived material value. Centred around recycling and repurposing, the exhibition looks to question what we as humans value in a throw away society and start to change the conversation.
Annie Taylor is taking part in the East Kent Artists Open Houses. She’ll be at 52 Regent Street, Whitstable CT5 1JQ, Saturdays & Sundays 10/11th, 17/18th, 24/25th October 2026 11am to 5pm. Artists across East Kent open the doors to their studios, workshops and houses for three weekends.
Nerissa Cargill Thompson will also be showing at the Comme Ca Art Exhibition, CCA Gallery, 5th Floor, Hope Mill, Pollard Street, Manchester, M4 7JA. The exhibition will open on Saturday 10th October from 1pm–7pm and will then be available by appointment until 31st October. The exhibition brings together 2D and 3D work celebrating the diversity and creativity of North West-based artists. Nerissa will show floral wall panels and a collection of Beached sculptures.
Amanda Bloom, Marilyn Hall, Marian Murphy and Consuelo Simpson are showing with Quinary at The Yard Gallery in Stroud from 26–31 October 2026, 10.30am–4pm. Quinary is a group of six artists, also including Caroline Hibbs and Jill Mundy, brought together by a shared love of textiles and making. This first exhibition at The Yard showcases six very different approaches to textile art, using a diverse range of fabrics, threads and materials. From familiar textile techniques to more experimental approaches, the exhibition explores the versatility of textiles within contemporary art and celebrates the individual ideas and styles of each artist.
Ross Belton is currently showing his sculpture “INVASION” as part of Malton Sculpture Trail in Dalby Forest until 31st March 2027.
