Susie Vickery

Susie Vickery responds to her concerns about global and local inequalities through embroidery. Her artwork is inspired by the history of garment production and the exploitation of workers in the sweated trades, and her work with projects that aim to build capacity for livelihoods, and community engagement with women’s health through craft and art.
She examines the subaltern status of textile work through embroideries that speak to the history and current practice of tailoring, globalisation through outsourcing, and sweatshops. She works with livelihood development projects with artisans in Tibet, Nepal and Turkey and women in vulnerable communities in urban India.
