Geraldine Festenstein

Geraldine draws inspiration from the mark making, musings and tracings that emerge in her lists, notebooks, diaries and on scraps of paper. She attempts to visually communicate the process and complexity of daily life through the use of textile and multi media to create layers and lettering.

TEXTILE PRACTICE
Geraldine works in simple materials such as calico, scrim and cotton. Materials are recycled and tones are usually muted. A particular technique is not important: she works in a technique that best suits the current project. Both hand stitch and free machine stitch is used, frequently from the reverse. More recently she has been working with wire: cotton covered and rusty iron wire and favours painting the surface with emulsion. Letters and layering is her language.
